Kathryn Tickell OBE has been a professional musician and composer since 1986. Her main focus is the Northumbrian smallpipes, and she has written many pieces for the instrument. As well as composing over sixty tunes which have been recorded by herself and other artists she has also been commissioned to compose for Royal Northern Sinfonia, London Sinfonietta, National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain, massed string ensembles at the Sage Gateshead and has also written many tunes for the youth ensembles that she has directed and taught over the decades. Kathryn also contributed material to Sting’s Last Ship project.
